Abandoned – Ghostly Echoes

Abandoned – photo by Wild Thing

Peeling paint
Broken panes
Crooked doors

Ghostly echoes of
Children’s laughter
Shadows on rewind

Late night
Lamp burning
His brow furrowed

She gazes at him
In her eyes
Love and tears

In red ink
No way out

Old pickup
Drives away
No one looks back

  1. Lovely writing/sad story. There are many such houses in rural Ohio. Many more in the large cities. They make you wonder how they came to be abandoned. Many family tragedies, for sure…and in the richest nation on the planet, it never seems right.
