Lost Thought

Drifting Just Out of Reach

Lost Thought

Taps tilted head
Looks around
Not on the table
Nor on the ceiling fan

Nibbles on a fingernail
Thinks backward
To jiggle the mind
Searches the corners

Others long forgotten
Arrive unbidden
A brief distraction
For a moment

It’s there hiding
Just beyond reach
Then suddenly gone
As if never there

Sighing she leaves
Thinking it’ll turn up
No time to waste
On a lost thought
